University of Hawaii Sociologist Elected to Lead the American Society of Criminology

The new president-elect of the American Society of CriminologyMeda Chesney-Lind, a professor and chair of the women’s studies department at the University of Hawaii, Manoa, was named president-elect of the American Society of Criminology. The society has nearly 4,000 members in 63 countries around the world. After serving as president-elect, she will become the 81st president in the society’s history.

Professor Chesney-Lind has served as vice president of the American Society of Criminology and as president of the Western Society of Criminology. She is the co-author of Girls, Delinquency and Juvenile Justice (Wiley, 4th edition, 2014) and The Female Offender: Girls, Women and Crime (Sage Publications, 3rd edition, 2012).

Dr. Chesney-Lind is a graduate of Whitman College in Walla Walla, Washington. She earned a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in sociology from the University of Hawaii, Manoa.
