Five Women Faculty Members Earn Emerita Status at Virginia Tech

Wanda J. Smith was appointed associate professor of management emerita in the Pamplin College of Business at Virginia Tech. A member of the university community since 1997, Smith has served as the director of the Pamplin College of Business Leadership Center.
Smith received her bachelor’s degree from Georgetown College in Kentucky, a master’s degree from the University of Chicago, and a Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Susan G. Magliaro was named professor emerita of education psychology in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. Professor Magliaro joined the faculty at Virginia Tech in 1988.
Professor Magliaro is a graduate of East Stroudsburg University in Pennsylvania, where she majored in elementary education. She holds a master’s degree from Iowa State University and a doctorate in curriculum and instruction from Virginia Tech.
Deborah G. Mayo was named professor emerita of philosophy at Virginia Tech. She joined the faculty at Virginia Tech in 1979. She is the author of Error and the Growth of Experimental Knowledge (University of Chicago Press, 1996).
Dr. Mayo earned a Ph.D. at the University of Pennsylvania.
Peggy S. Meszaros, the William E. Lavery Professor of Human Development in the College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences and former provost at Virginia Tech, has been conferred the title of professor emerita provost emerita by the Virginia Tech Board of Visitors.
Dr. Meszaros is a graduate of Austin Peay State University in Clarksville, Tennessee. She earned a master’s degree at the University of Kentucky and a Ph.D. at the University of Maryland.
Doris Zallen, professor of science and technology studies and humanities in the College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences at Virginia Tech, has been conferred the title of professor emerita.
Dr. Zallen is a graduate of Brooklyn College in New York. She earned a master’s degree and a Ph.D. at Harvard University.
