Elise Boxer Is the New Leader of the American Indian Studies Association

Elise Boxer, assistant professor of history and Native American studies at the University of South Dakota, was elected president of the American Indian Studies Association. She will serve a one-year term as president.
The American Indian Studies Association is hosted by the American Indian studies program at Arizona State University. The association holds an annual conference with a different theme each year. This year’s event focused on “Native Leadership in Community Building.”
Dr. Boxer is an enrolled citizen of the Fort Peck Assiniboine and Sioux Tribes. She is Dakota from the Sisseton and Wahpeton bands. She is a graduate of Washington State University, where she double majored in history and social studies. Dr. Boxer earned a master’s degree in American history at Utah State University and a Ph.D. in American Indian history from Arizona State University.
