Two Women Named to Provost Positions

Bennett College, a liberal arts educational institution for women in Greensboro, North Carolina, has announced that Phyllis Worthy Dawkins has been appointed provost and vice president for academic affairs. She will assume her new duties on December 1.
Since 2013 Dr. Dawkins has been provost and vice president for academic affairs at Cheyney University, one of 14 campuses that make up the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education. Previously, she was provost, senior vice president for academic affairs, and professor of education at Dillard University in New Orleans. Before joining the administration at Dillard University in 2009, Dr. Dawkins served in many positions over 28 years at Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Dr. Dawkins is a graduate of Johnson C. Smith University. She holds a master’s degree from the University of Michigan and a doctorate from Ohio State University.
Joyce Jacobsen was appointed provost and vice president for academic affairs at Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut. She has been serving as interim provost since April of this year. She has now agreed to stay in the post until June 2019.
Dr. Jacobsen joined the Wesleyan faculty in 1993. She has served as the Andrews Professor of Economics, dean of social sciences, and director of global initiatives. She is the author or editor of three books including The Economics of Gender, Third Edition (Wiley-Blackwell, 2007).
Professor Jacobsen is a graduate of Harvard University. She holds a master’s degree from the London School of Economics and Political Science and a Ph.D. in economics from Stanford University.
