University of Illinois Appoints Four Women as University Scholars

The University of Illinois at Urbana/Champaign has announced the appointment of seven faculty members as University Scholars. The seven faculty members will receive stipends to support their research over the next three years. Four of the seven new University Scholars are women.

Carla Cáceres is a professor of animal biology. She joined the faculty at the university in 2001 and currently serves as director of the School of Integrative Biology. Her research focuses on aquatic ecosystems. Dr. Cáceres is a graduate of the University of Michigan. She holds a Ph.D. in ecology and evolutionary biology from Cornell University in Ithaca, New York.

Clare Haru Crowston is a professor of history who specializes in early modern France. She is the author of Fabricating Women: The Seamstresses of Old Regime France, 1675-1791 (Duke University Press, 2001) and Credit, Fashion, Sex: Economies of Regard in Old Regime France (Duke University Press, 2013). Professor Crowston joined the faculty at the University of Illinois in 1996. She is a graduate of McGill University in Montreal and holds a Ph.D. from Cornell University.

Leanne Knobloch is a professor of communication at the University of Illinois. Her research concerns how people in close relationships communicate. Dr. Knobloch joined the faculty at the university in 2002. She is a graduate of St. Norbert College in De Pere, Wisconsin. Professor Knobloch holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Arden Rowell is a professor of law who has been on the faculty since 2010. Previously, she was a Bigelow Fellow and lecturer in law at the University of Chicago Law School. Her research is concerned with risk regulation and human behavior with a focus on environmental law. Professor Rowell graduated from the University of Washington at the age of 18 with a degree in anthropology/archaeology. She earned her law degree at the University of Chicago.
