Katherine L. Knight to Be Honored by the Drexel University College of Medicine

Knight_KKatherine L. Knight, professor and chair of the department of microbiology and immunology at Loyola University in Chicago, has been chosen as the 2015 recipient of the Marion Spencer Fay Award from the Institute for Women’s Health and Leadership at the Drexel University College of Medicine in Philadelphia.

The award is named after Dr. Fay, who was dean and president of the Woman’s Medical College of Pennsylvania from 1946 to 1963. The award has been presented for the past 52 years. Dr. Knight will receive the award and a $10,000 prize at a ceremony in Philadelphia this November.

Dr. Knight is also the co-founder of the Infectious Disease and Immunology Institute at Loyola University. She has received continuous research funding from the National Institutes of Health for more than 45 years. Her research on cancer, aging, and infections has had a major impact.

Professor Knight is a graduate of Elmira College in New York. She holds a Ph.D. in chemistry from Indiana University. Dr. Knight joined the faculty at Loyola University in 1988 after serving on the faculty at the University of Illinois.
