Yeshiva University Will Merge the Faculties of Yeshiva College and the Stern College for Women

Yeshiva University in New York announced that it will merge the faculties of Yeshiva College and the Stern College for Women. The two undergraduate campuses of Yeshiva, in different neighborhoods of Manhattan, will remain separate. But the faculties of the two campuses will merge into unified departments and, where possible, the curricula will be standardized.

Karen Bacon, who was named the inaugural Dr. Monique C. Katz Dean of the Undergraduate Faculty of Arts and Sciences, will oversee the transition and lead the combined faculties. Dr. Bacon has served as dean of the Stern College for Women since 1977. She is a graduate of Yeshiva University and holds a Ph.D. in microbiology.

“My entire career as an administrator has been shaped by my respect for faculty and the academic enterprise and by an appreciation for the difference a first-rate education can make in a student’s life,” said Dr. Bacon. “A unified undergraduate liberal arts faculty, collaborating and innovating, has the potential to fashion a Yeshiva University education that is even stronger than it is today. I feel honored to have a role in actualizing this next stage in the development of Yeshiva University.”
