Four Women in New Faculty Posts

JohnsonJasmineJasmine Johnson was named an assistant professor at Brandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts. She holds a joint appointment in the department of African and Afro-American studies and the Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies Program.

Dr. Johnson was a postdoctoral fellow at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. She holds bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees, all from the University of California, Berkeley.

tara smithTara Tietjen-Smith was appointed interim chair of the department of health and human performance at Texas A&M University-Commerce. She is an associate professor and certified health educational specialist in the department. Earlier in her career, she was an assistant professor at Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee.

Dr. Tietjen-Smith holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, Louisiana. She holds a doctorate in physical education and exercise science from Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro.

elizabeth_calhounElizabeth Calhoun was named professor in the Division of Community, Environment, and Policy in the College of Public Health at the University of Arizona. She will have a joint appointment as a professor of surgery in the university’s College of Medicine. Dr. Calhoun will also serve as associate vice president for population health sciences and as executive director of the new Center for Population Science and Discovery at the university. She was a professor of health policy and administration at the School of Public Health at the University of Illinois at Chicago.

Dr. Calhoun is a graduate of Chatham College in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She holds a master’s degree in rehabilitation counseling from the University of Pittsburgh and a Ph.D. in health administration from the University of South Carolina.

clevelandChristena Cleveland is a new associate professor of anthropology, sociology, and reconciliation studies at Bethel University in St. Paul, Minnesota. She is the author of Disunity in Christ: Uncovering the Hidden Forces That Keep Us Apart (IVP Books, 2013).

Dr. Cleveland is a graduate of Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire. She earned a Ph.D. at the University of California, Santa Barbara.
