Geeta Swamy has been appointed dean of the Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine at Boston University. Dr. Swamy has spent the past 22 years at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina, most recently serving as the Haywood Brown, MD Distinguished Professor of Women’s Health, associate vice president for research, and executive vice dean for clinical sciences and research administration in the School of Medicine. A renowned researcher in obstetrics and gynecology, Dr. Swamy has led several studies examining the links between environmental, social, and political factors and health outcomes, specifically for women and children.
Dr. Swamy received her bachelor’s degree in public health and biostatistics and her medical degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She completed a residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Pittsburgh and a fellowship in maternal-fetal medicine at Duke University.
Ashley S. Dukes has been named academic dean for the Americus campus of South Georgia Technical College. Dukes has been working as a psychology instructor for South Georgia Technical College for the past 11 years and as an intensive support coordinator for Columbus Community Services since 2014. She has also worked as a family independent case manager for the Lee County Department of Family and Children Services.
Dukes holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Georgia Southwestern State University and a master’s degree in psychology from Grand Canyon University.
Merritt McAlister has been named the permanent dean of the Levin College of Law at the University of Florida. McAlister, the Levin, Mabie & Levin Professor of Law, has served in the role on an interim basis since June 2023. She teaches and writes in the areas of federal courts, judicial decision-making, constitutional law, and court administration. Her scholarship centers around issues of institutional design in the federal appellate courts. Before joining the University of Florida faculty in 2018, Professor McAlister spent eight years in private practice with King & Spalding.
Professor McAlister is a graduate of Rice University in Houston. She holds a juris doctorate from the University of Georgia Law School.
