Sherry Kollmann Named President of Vermont State University

Sherry Kollmann has been appointed president of Vermont State University and vice chancellor of the Vermont State Colleges System. She will assume her new role in July.

According to the U.S. Department of Education, Vermont State University enrolls over 4,100 undergraduate students, 55 percent of whom are women. The university has a graduate population of roughly 1,000 students.

With over 25 years of experience in higher education, business, and public service, Dr. Kollmann has been serving as chancellor of the New Mexico State University Global Campus. Earlier in her career, she served as senior associate dean of business programs at Southern New Hampshire University and as vice president of the School of Graduate and Professional Studies at New England College. As a scholar, Dr. Kollman studies digital learning systems, learning science, motivational implications for faculty performance, and inclusive and equity-driven education, particularly for underserved and rural populations.

“I am honored and excited to join Vermont State University and the Vermont State Colleges System,” said Dr. Kollmann. “I firmly believe that education and training have the power to change lives in profound and lasting ways. My own path was not traditional, and that experience shaped my commitment to ensuring that students from all backgrounds have access to both high-quality learning opportunities and the support systems they need to succeed. I am looking forward to working closely with VTSU’s incredible faculty and staff, as well as partners across Vermont.”

A graduate of Bethel University, Dr. Kollman holds a master’s degree from Concordia University and both a master of education degree and a Ph.D. in instructional psychology and technology from the University of Oklahoma.
