Jennifer Doudna Wins the $100,000 Lurie Prize in the Biomedical Sciences

Jennifer DoudnaJennifer Doudna, professor of biochemistry, biophysics, and structural biology at the University of California at Berkeley, has been chosen as the second winner of the Lurie Prize in the Biomedical Sciences. The award, which comes with a $100,000 honorarium, is presented by the Foundation for the National Institutes of Health. Professor Doudna will receive the award at a ceremony in Washington, D.C., this coming May.

Dr. Doudna’s research focuses on the molecular structure of RNA molecules. Along with colleagues at the University of California, Professor Doudna discovered a gene-editing technique which Science magazine named runner-up for breakthrough of the year in 2013.

Dr. Doudna is a graduate of Pomona College in Claremont, California. She holds a Ph.D. from Harvard University.
