Roxana Mehran recently began a one-year term as president of the American College of Cardiology, a professional organization supporting some 60,000 members from around the world.
Dr. Mehran currently serves as the Mount Sinai Professor in Cardiovascular Clinical Research and Outcomes at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York City. She is the director of the Women’s Heart and Vascular Center at Mount Sinai Fuster Heart Hospital and director of the Center for Interventional Cardiovascular Research and Clinical Trials.
Known for her expertise in designing and implementing randomized clinical trials, Dr. Mehran focuses her work on personalized medicine and developing individual risk scores for bleeding and acute kidney injury. She is a founder and prior chief scientific officer of the Cardiovascular Research Foundation. Dr. Meharn is also the founder of Women as One, an independent nonprofit dedicated to advancing opportunities for women in medicine.
“I am honored and excited to assume this unique leadership role within the College,” said Dr. Mehran. “The ACC is a remarkable global organization devoted to improving human health by transforming cardiovascular care. Our members are on the front lines every day seeking evidence, diagnosing diseases, and caring for patients.”
Dr. Mehran earned her medical degree from St. George’s University School of Medicine in Grenada. She completed internal medicine residencies at InterCommunity Health Care and the University of Connecticut School of Medicine, as well as fellowships in cardiovascular disease and interventional cardiology at Mount Sinai Hospital.
