In Memoriam: Annette Parker Burr, 1936-2025

Annette Parker Burr, associate professor emerita at Virginia Tech, passed away on January 2. She was 88 years old.

Dr. Burr served as Virginia Tech’s art and architecture librarian and taught courses on art history for two decades. She retired in 2001 as an associate professor emerita. Outside of her role at Virginia Tech, she served on the board of advisors for the International Archive of Women in Architecture. She was also a dedicated social activist and champion of justice and equality, including teaching English as a second language.

A native of Evanston, Illinois, Dr. Burr received her bachelor’s degree in English from Virginia Tech and her master’s degree in library science from the University of North Carolina. She earned a second master’s degree and a Ph.D. in art and art history from the University of Virginia.
