Six Women Who Have Received Administrative Appointments in Academia

Alicia Wilson has been named vice president for civic engagement and opportunity at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland. Her appointment marks a return to the university, where she previously served as the inaugural vice president for economic development and community partnerships. For the past two years, she has been the managing director of the North American regional philanthropy team at JPMorgan Chase.
Wilson received her bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Maryland Baltimore County and her juris doctorate from the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law.
Jo Ann Herold has been promoted from interim vice president to permanent vice president for public relations and marketing communications at Georgia State University. She has a robust background in corporate marketing leadership, including service as chief marketing office for The Honey Baked Ham Company, global chief marketing officer for Interface Inc., and vice president for brand and communication at Arby’s Restaurant group.
Herold holds a bachelor’s degree in communication from Mississippi State University and an MBA in international business from Mercer University in Georgia.
Amber Burdge has been selected to serve as acting athletics director at New Mexico State University. She currently serves as the university’s deputy athletic director for strategic initiatives and leadership, senior woman administrator, and deputy Title IX coordinator for the athletics department. Prior to her current role, she was the associate athletic director for student athlete success services at Louisiana Tech University.
Dr. Burdge earned her bachelor’s degree in health and her master’s degree in counseling from Oklahoma State University. She holds a doctor of education degree from Louisiana Tech University.
Kathleen de la Torre has been promoted to assistant vice chancellor for development at Western Carolina University. Since August 2023, she has served as director of development for the university’s College of Health and Human Sciences. She previously spent several years with The Cindy Platt Boys & Girls Club of Transylvania County in Brevard, North Carolina, serving in roles such as resource development director and finance director.
De la Torre is a summa cum laude graduate of Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, where she double-majored in mathematics and anthropology. She holds an MBA from Western Carolina University.
Marianne Donley has been named the physical sciences librarian in the department of research and scholarship at Syracuse University Libraries. She comes to her new role from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where she was a health sciences library intern.
Donley holds a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Villanova University in Pennsylvania and a master’s degree in library and information science from the University of Pittsburgh.
Michele Campagna has been appointed vice president for student success at Harford Community College in Maryland. Previously, she spent several years with SUNY Westchester Community College, most recently serving as assistant vice president and dean for student success. Earlier in her tenure, she was the assistant dean for learning initiatives and student success.
Dr. Campagna is a graduate of New York University, where she majored in anthropology. She holds a master’s degree in counseling from the University of Alaska Fairbanks and a doctorate in higher education from the University of Alabama.
