Maria Pitre-Martin, executive director of the SERVE Center at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, has received the Friday Medal from the Friday Institute for Educational Innovation at North Carolina State University. The medal, presented annually in recognition of outstanding contributions to advancing innovation in education, is the institution’s highest honor.

Outside of her public service roles, Dr. Pitre-Martin has held several executive administrative roles with school districts in North Carolina, Virginia, Pennsylvania, Louisiana, and Texas.

“I am truly honored to be the recipient of the 2024 Friday Medal and the 26th recipient of this honor,” said Pitre-Martin. “I am an ardent supporter of public education and to be recognized with an honor that embodies the passionate advocacy of educational leaders Bill and Ida Friday brings me joy beyond measure.”
