Bucknell University Appoints Wendy Sternburg as Provost

Wendy Sternberg has been named provost of Bucknell University in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania . She will begin her new role on July 1.

Currently, Dr. Sternberg is the vice president for academic affairs and dean of Occidental College in Los Angeles, California, where she has served since 2017. Prior to her present position, she served as dean of academic departments and programs at Union College in New York. Earlier in her career, she was associate provost at Haverford College in Pennsylvania, where she taught in the psychology department for 18 years. Throughout her scholarly career, she has conducted research focusing on the relationship between biological psychology, pain, and stress.

“I’m delighted to be joining the Bucknell community, an institution I have long admired for its commitment to the liberal arts in all of its forms, and its emphasis on preparing students for lives and careers of meaning and purpose,” Sternberg says. “I look forward to working with Bucknell’s faculty, students and staff in ushering in the university’s next chapter.”

Dr. Sternberg graduated from Union College where she majored in psychology. She earned her master’s degree and Ph.D. in psychology from the University of California, Los Angeles.
