Nerita Hughes Will Be the Next President of Bay de Noc Community College in Michigan

Nerita Hughes has been chosen to be the next president of Bay de Noc Community College in Escanaba, Michigan. She will take office on July 10.

Founded in 1963, Bay College on Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, enrolls just under 2,000 students, according to the most recent data from the U.S. Department of Education. Women make up 64 percent of the student body.

“I am extremely excited to join and lead a student-centric institution that has a continued commitment to equity and belonging,” said Dr. Hughes. “Bay College will be the ‘community’s college’ and having the opportunity to lead within a rural community offers what I like to call radical imagination for our future.”

Dr. Hughes has been serving as the interim associate vice president of academic affairs and workforce innovation and dean of the School of Business, Careers, Education, and Workforce Innovation at North Hennepin Community College in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota.

Dr. Hughes holds a bachelor’s degree from National American University in Denver, where she majored in business administration. She earned an MBA and a doctorate in educational leadership from Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota.
