Six New Women Faculty at Syracuse University’s College of Visual and Performing Arts

The College of Visual and Performing Arts at Syracuse University has hired six new full-time women faculty members this fall.

Natalie Draper has been named an assistant professor of theory and composition at the Rose, Jules R. and Stanford S. Setnor School of Music. She was a music theory and composition instructor at the Levine School of Music in Washington., D.C.

Dr. Draper holds a bachelor’s degree in music from Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota, a master’s degree in composition from the University of Cincinnati, and a doctorate in composition from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore.

Kelly Gallagher has been named an assistant professor of film in the department of transmedia. She was an assistant professor of media arts at Antioch College in Yellow Springs, Ohio.

Professor Gallagher holds a bachelor’s degree in film and video production from Pennsylvania State University and a master’s degree in cinematic arts from the University of Iowa.

Lyndsay Michalik Gratch has been named an assistant teaching professor in the department of communication and rhetorical studies. She is the author of Adaptation Online: Creating Memes, Sweding Movies, and Other Digital Performances (Lexington Books, 2017).

Dr. Gratch holds a bachelor’s degree in theatre arts, communication, and media and a master’s degree in theatre arts from Eastern Michigan University, and a Ph.D. in communication studies with a focus in performance studies from Louisiana State University.

Su Hyun Nam has been named an assistant professor of computer art and animation. She was an adjunct professor at the University of Buffalo.

Nam holds a bachelor’s degree in contemporary art and communication design from Knokuk University in Seoul, Korea, and a master’s degree in art and technology studies from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She is currently a Ph.D. candidate in media study at the University of Buffalo.

Whitney Phillips has been named an assistant professor in the department of communication and rhetorical studies. She was an assistant professor of literary studies and writing at Mercer University in Macon, Georgia.

Dr. Phillips holds a bachelor’s degree in philosophy from Humboldt State University in Arcata, California, a master of fine arts degree in creative writing from Emerson College in Boston, and a Ph.D. in English with a folklore-structured emphasis and digital culture focus from the University of Oregon.

Isabel Prochner has been named assistant professor of industrial and interaction design in the School of Design. She is also the online editor for the Design Research Society and was previously a tutorial instructor at Concordia University.

Dr. Prochner holds a bachelor’s degree in industrial and product design from the University of Alberta in Canada and a master’s degree and Ph.D. both in design from the University of Montreal.
