A Half Dozen Women Faculty Members Who Are Taking on New Assignments

Rosie Alegado, an assistant professor of oceanography at the University of Hawaii at Manoa was appointed director of the Hawaii Sea Grant’s Center for Integrated Science, Knowledge and Culture.

Dr. Alegado is a graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where she majored in biology. She holds a Ph.D. in microbiology and immunology from the Stanford University School of Medicine.

Wendy Hanna-Rose was named chair of the department of biochemistry and molecular biology at Pennsylvania State University. She  has been on the Penn State faculty since 2002.

Professor Hanna-Rose is a graduate of Anderson University. She earned a Ph.D. in microbiology and molecular genetics at Harvard University.

Deborah A. Lee, a full professor at the Mississippi State University Libraries, was given the added duties as associate dean for public services for the library system. She has taught at the university since 1993 and was promoted to full professor in 2007.

Dr. Lee holds a bachelor’s degree in political science and Latin American studies, a master’s degree in political science and a master of library and information science degrees, all from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She also holds an MBA and a Ph.D. in business administration from Mississippi State University.

Anna J. Siefken, who teaches in the College of Information Systems and Public Policy at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, was named the inaugural executive director of the Wilton E. Scott Institute for Energy Innovation at the university.

Prior to joining the university in 2016, Siefken was the district director and vice president of strategic engagement for the Green Building Alliance. She is a graduate of Duke University in Durham, North Carolina.

Laura C. Bridgewater, a professor of molecular biology at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, was given the added duties of associate academic vice president for faculty development. She has been serving as associate dean of the College of Life Sciences.

Dr. Bridgewater is a graduate of Brigham Young University. She holds a Ph.D. from George Washington University in Washington, D.C.

Karen Hyllegard was named chair of the department of design and merchandising at Colorado State University. She joined the faculty at the university in 1998.

Professor Hyllegard is a graduate of William Smith College in Geneva, New York. She earned a master’s degree at Oregon State University and a Ph.D. at the University of Maryland.
