The First Woman President of Utah Valley University in Orem

The Utah State Board of Regents has selected Astrid S. Tuminez as the seventh president of Utah Valley University in Orem. When she takes office this fall, Dr. Tuminez will be the first woman to lead the university since its founding in 1941.
Utah Valley University enrolls nearly 35,000 undergraduate students and nearly 300 graduate students. Women make up 46 percent of the student body.
Dr. Tuminez currently serves as regional director for corporate, external and legal affairs in Southeast Asia for Microsoft Corporation. But Dr. Tuminez is not without experience in higher education. She is the former dean of research and assistant dean of executive education for the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy at the National University of Singapore.
Dr. Tuminez is a graduate of Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. She earned a master’s degree at Harvard University and a Ph.D. in international relations from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
