The University of California, Berkeley has a history of being at the forefront of social change. Now the university has announced plans to renovate existing locker room space at its Recreational Sports Facility to include a new 4,500-square-foot gender neutral locker room.
The new locker room will offer private changing rooms, showers, lockers, and bathroom stalls that can be used by any student. Construction is set to begin in 2018.
Will Morrow, the recent president of the Associated Students of the university said that “this locker room project not only symbolically affirms our campus values of inclusivity and access for all, but it provides a tangible service for students who are currently being underserved. In providing a safe and inclusive changing space, the Recreational Sports Facility is adapting to better serve the wellness of all members of our campus community.”
