Barnard College, the highly rated liberal arts college for women in New York City, has announced the establishment of a new scholarship to aid a woman refugee. The Ann and Andrew Tisch Scholarship for Refugee Women will be awarded each year to a woman whose education has been interrupted as a result of war, persecution, conflict, natural disaster, or crisis.
The scholarship will fund a woman’s education for four years and will include money for room and board, books, travel, and stipends for internships.
Ann Tisch, the founder and president of the Young Women’s Leadership Network and her husband Andrew have endowed the scholarship. Ann Tisch said “like millions of people, we witness the horror of what’s going on in Syria and other nations around the globe. By sponsoring and funding this scholarship, we can make a contribution. We hope that the Barnard scholarship will become a copycat initiative, with other colleges inspired to follow this example.”
