In Memoriam: Sharon Jeanette Hawks, 1956-2017

Sharon Hawks, an associate professor and the director of the nurse anesthesia program at the Duke University School of Nursing died at her home on January 10. She was 60 years old and had suffered from cholangiocarcinoma, or bile duct cancer.
A native of Mount Airy, North Carolina, Dr. Hawks was a graduate of Radford University in Virginia. She went on to earn a master’s degree in nursing from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and a doctor of nursing practice degree from Duke University.
Dr. Hawks joined the faculty a the Duke School of Nursing in 2006. Five years later, she was appointed director of the nurse anesthesia program.
