The Smith Alumnae Quarterly was first published in 1909. The official alumnae publication of the highly rated liberal arts college for women in Northampton, Massachusetts, is now available online. Every issue of the quarterly has been digitized and is fully searchable.
The archive not only offers a look into the past at Smith College but is also a valuable resource relating to women’s history. The online database offers a glimpse of the lives that women led at Smith, the preoccupations of Smith students and faculty, the concerns and advice of alumnae as they moved into careers and the effects on and contributions of women during two world wars.
Browsing through the class notes section, you can read comments submitted by alumnae including Nancy Reagan, Barbara Bush, Gloria Steinem, and Julia Child.
Laurie Fenlason, vice president for public affairs and strategic initiatives at Smith College, stated “we’re proud to put this invaluable history at the fingertips of our readers.”
