In Memoriam: Diana Reid Nemergut, 1974-2015

Diana Nemergut, associate professor of biology at Duke University, died on December 31. She was 41 years old had suffered from brain cancer.
Dr. Nemergut’s research focused on fundamental principles of ecological and evolutionary theory to better understand and predict the dynamics of inherently complex microbial systems. She came to Duke in 2014 after teaching in the department of environmental studies at the University of Colorado at Boulder.
Dr. Nemergut was a graduate of the University of New Orleans, where she majored in biological sciences. She earned a Ph.D. in ecology and environmental biology at the University of Colorado and then conducted postdoctoral research in marine and coastal sciences at Rutgers University in New Jersey.
