Three Universities Make Appointments of Women to Dean Posts

prudencecarterPrudence Carter was named dean of the Graduate School of Education at the University of California, Berkeley, effective June 30, 2016. She currently serves as the Jacks Family Professor of Education at Stanford University. She is also the faculty director of the John W. Gardner Center for Youth and Their Communities. Dr. Carter is the author of two books, Keepin’ It Real: School Success Beyond Black and White (Oxford University Press, 2005) and Stubborn Roots: Race, Culture, and Inequality in U.S. and South African Schools (Oxford University Press, 2012).

A native of Mississippi, Dr. Carter is graduate of Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, where she majored in applied mathematics and economics. She holds two master’s degrees and a Ph.D. in sociology from Columbia University.

lizarribarCamille Lizarribar was appointed dean of student affairs and senior associate dean for Yale College. Since 2010, Dr. Lizarribar has been serving as the residential college dean of Ezra Stiles College at Yale.

A native of San Juan, Puerto Rico, Dr. Lizarribar is a graduate of Brandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts, where she double majored in comparative literature and French language and literature. She holds a Ph.D. in comparative literature and a law degree from Harvard University.

bostic croppedHeidi Bostic was named dean of the College of Liberal Arts at the University of New Hampshire, effective June 27, 2016. Dr. Bostic is a professor of French and chair of the department of modern languages and culture at Baylor University in Waco, Texas, where she also serves as director of interdisciplinary programs in the College of Arts and Sciences.

Dr. Bostic is a graduate of the University of Nebraska at Omaha. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. from Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana. Professor Bostic is the author of The Fiction of Enlightenment: Women of Reason in the French Eighteenth Century (University of Delaware Press, 2010).
