Four Women Hired to the Faculty at Bowdoin College in Maine

Bowdoin College, the highly rated liberal arts educational institution in Brunswick, Maine, has hired four women to its faculty.

Bay-Cheng-photo-copy2Sarah Bay-Cheng was named professor of theater and dance. She is spending the fall semester as a visiting professor at Utrecht University in The Netherlands. For the past decade she has served on the faculty at the University at Buffalo of the State University of New York System. Professor Bay-Cheng is the author of Performance and Media: Taxonomies for a Changing Field (University of Michigan Press, 2015). She is a graduate of Wellesley College in Massachusetts and holds a Ph.D. from the University of Michigan.

meryem-belkaidMeryem Belkaid is a new assistant professor of Romance languages. Her current research interest is North African crime fiction. For the past two years, Dr. Belkaid has been at visiting professor at Bates College in Lewiston, Maine. Previously, she taught at the University of Tunis and at the Sorbonne in Paris. She holds a Ph.D. from the Sorbonne.

sakura-christmasSakura Christmas was appointed assistant professor of history and Asian studies. Her current research is focused on the Japanese occupation of Inner Mongolia in the early twentieth century. She is a graduate of Harvard University and recently completed her doctoral work at Harvard.

kana-takematsuKana Takematsu was named an assistant professor of chemistry and biochemistry. She is an expert in laser spectroscopy. Dr. Takematsu is a graduate of the University of Chicago. She earned a Ph.D. and conducted postdoctoral research at the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena.
