Maryanne Reed to Lead the Association of Schools of Journalism and Mass Communication

reedMaryanne Reed, dean of the College of Media at West Virginia University, was elected vice president of the Association of Schools of Journalism and Mass Communication. The association, founded in 1917, is a nonprofit group of deans and directors of journalism schools throughout the United States. Reed will serve as vice president during the coming academic year and then assume the role of president-elect for 2016-17. In 2017, she will become president of the association.

Reed has been dean of the College of Media at West Virginia University since 2004. In May of this year, she took on the additional responsibility of interim dean of the Eberly College of Arts and Sciences, the largest academic unit at West Virginia University. Professor Reed joined the faculty at the university in 1993.

Professor Reed is graduate of the University of Massachusetts, where she majored in history. She holds a master’s degree in journalism from Northwestern University.
