Juanita Johnson-Bailey, a Meigs Professor of education and director of the Institute for Women’s Studies at the University of Georgia, was chosen to receive the 2015 Eleanor Roosevelt Award from the American Association of University Women. She will be honored at the AAUW national convention in San Diego this June.
Professor Johnson-Bailey is the author of Sistahs in College: Making a Way Out of No Way (Krieger Publishing, 2000). She joined the faculty at the University of Georgia in 1995. Dr. Johnson-Bailey is a graduate of Mercer University in Macon, Georgia, and holds master’s and doctoral degrees in adult education from the University of Georgia.
Rae Silver, the Helene L. and Mark N. Kaplan Professor of Natural and Physical Sciences at Barnard College in New York City, received tha 2015 Daniel S. Lehrman Lifetime Achievement Award from the Society for Behavioral Neuroendocrinology.
Professor Silver joined the Barnard College faculty in 1976. She is a graduate of McGill University in Montreal and holds a master’s degree from the City University of New York and a Ph.D. from the Institute of Animal Behavior at Rutgers University.
Maria Harrison has been selected to receive the 2015 Dennis R. Hoagland Award from the American Society of Plant Biologists. She will be honored at the group’s annual meeting in Minneapolis this summer.
Dr. Harrison is the William H. Crocker Professor at the Boyce Thompson Institute for Plant Research at Cornell University.
Lois Zook-Gerdau, associate professor of chemistry at Muskingum University in New Concord, Ohio, received the 2015 Vernier Technology Award from the National Science Teachers Association. The award honors innovative use of data collection technology in the classroom.
Dr. Zook-Gerdau has been on the faculty at Muskingum University since 2002. She is a graduate of Hiram College in Ohio and earned a doctorate at the University of Iowa.
Barbara E. Hagler, an associate professor in the department of workforce education and development at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, was named the 2015 Outstanding Collegiate Teacher of the Year by the National Business Education Association.
Dr. Hagler joined the faculty at Southern Illinois University in 1987. She holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Southern Illinois University and an educational doctorate from Arizona State University.
Wanda Heading-Grant, vice president for human resources, diversity, and multicultural affairs at the University of Vermont, received the Diversity Visionary Award from Insight Into Diversity magazine.
Dr. Heading-Grant holds a bachelor’s degree and an educational doctorate in policy study and leadership from the University of Vermont.
