Grants or Gifts Relating to Women in Higher Education

Here is this week’s news of grants and gifts that may be of particular interest to women in higher education.
The School of Public Health at Georgia State University in Atlanta received a $50,000 grant from the Elton Johns AIDS Foundation for a program that trains transgender women as peer guides to support transgender women who have HIV/AIDS. The grant program is under the direction of Donna Smith, a research associate at the School of Public Health.
The University of Notre Dame in Indiana received a grant from the U.S. Department of Defense Ovarian Cancer Research Program. The research, under the direction of Karen Cowden-Dahl, an adjunct professor of chemistry and biochemistry, will focus on genetic means to prevent recurrence of the disease after surgery and chemotherapy. Dr. Cowden-Dahl, who also holds a faculty post at Indiana University School of Medicine in South Bend, is a graduate of Texas Tech University and holds a Ph.D. in cell and molecular biology from the University of Pennsylvania,
