Beverly Walker-Griffea to Lead the American Association for Women in Community Colleges

walkergriffeaBeverly Walker-Griffea, the new president of Mott Community College in Flint, Michigan, has been selected as leader of American Association for Women in Community Colleges. Dr. Walker-Griffea will serve for one year as president-elect and then assume the presidency of the organization in 2015 for a two-year term.

Dr. Walker-Griffea became the seventh president of Mott Community College on August 27, 2014. She is the first woman and the first African American to lead the college, which enrolls about 10,000 students. Women make up 58 percent of the student body.

Before becoming president of Mott Community College, Dr. Walker-Griffea was the senior vice president for student services at Montgomery College in Maryland. She is a graduate of Oklahoma State University. President Walker-Griffea holds a master’s degree in education from Virginia State University and a doctorate from Texas Woman’s University in Denton.
