In Memoriam: Astrid Merget, 1945-2014

Astrid Merget, professor at the Public Administration Institute at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, died on October 13 after a long battle with cancer. She was 69 years old.
Dr. Merget joined the faculty at LSU in 2007 and served as executive vice president and provost from 2007 to 2010. Before coming to LSU, she was dean of the School of Public and Environmental Affairs at Indiana University. Earlier in her career, she held faculty and/or administrative posts at Ohio State University, Syracuse University, and George Washington University. Dr. Merget served as president of the National Association of School of Public Affairs and as chair of the National Council for Science and the Environment.
Professor Merget was a magna cum laude graduate of Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley, Massachusetts. She held a master’s degree and a Ph.D. from the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs at Syracuse University in New York.
