The United States Department of Education has published a list of 55 colleges and universities that as of May 1, 2014 are under investigation for possible violations of Title IX regarding sexual assault and/or harassment complaints.
Massachusetts has six educational institutions on the list, more than any other state. Pennsylvania ranks second with five institutions on the list. California, Colorado, and New York each have four.
In a statement, Assistant Secretary for Civil Rights Catherine E. Lhamon said, “We are making this list available in an effort to bring more transparency to our enforcement work and to foster better public awareness of civil rights. We hope this increased transparency will spur community dialogue about this important issue.”
The complete list of colleges and universities under investigation is available here.
