The Next Dean of the Medical School at the University of California at Davis

Julie Freischlag has been chosen as the next dean of the University of California at Davis School of Medicine. She will also serve as vice chancellor for human health services at the university. Currently, Dr. Freischlag is the William Stewart Halsted Professor and chief of surgery at the Johns Hopkins Medical Institute. She will become dean on February 10.
Dr. Freischlag has been at Johns Hopkins since 2003. Previously, she was chief of vascular surgery at the David Geffen Medical School at the University of California at Los Angeles. Earlier, she was a professor of surgery at the Medical College of Wisconsin.
Professor Freischlag is a graduate of the University of Illinois and earned her medical degree at Rush University in Chicago.
