Deborah Kochevar Honored for Her Efforts to Increase Diversity in Veterinary Medicine

Kochevar, dean of the Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University, received the 2013 Leadership Award from the Lesbian and Gay Veterinary Medical Association (LGVMA). Dr. Kochevar was honored for her efforts to promote diversity and inclusion in the veterinary profession.

Dr. Kochevar was the first veterinary school dean to join the LGVMA.

Prior to her appointment as dean at Tufts in August 2006, Dr. Kochevar was associate dean for professional programs and held the Wiley Chair of Veterinary Medical Education at Texas A&M University’s College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences. She had served on the faculty at Texas A&M for nearly two decades.

Dr. Kochevar holds a bachelor of arts degree in English and biology from Rice University. She received a doctor of veterinary medicine degree from Texas A&M University and a Ph.D. degree in cellular and molecular biology from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center.
