Joan Steitz Earns the Highest Honor From the French Academy of Sciences

Joan Steitz, the Sterling Professor of Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry at Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut, has been selected to receive the 2013 Grand Medal from the French Academy of Sciences. The highest award given by the society honors a French national or a foreign scientist who has made “remarkable and decisive” contributions to his or her field.
Professor Steitz is being honored for her work with non-coding RNA and for her efforts to encourage greater participation of women in science.
Dr. Steitz is a graduate of Antioch College. She earned a Ph.D. at Harvard University and conducted postdoctoral research at Cambridge University.
