Dean of the School of Social Work at Smith College to Retire Next Spring

Carolyn Jacobs, dean of the School of Social Work and the Elizabeth Marting Treuhaft Professor at Smith College in Northampton, Massachusetts, has announced that she will retire next spring after 30 years at the college. She is also the director of the Contemplative Clinical Practice Advanced Certificate Program at the Smith College School for Social Work.
Dr. Jacobs was named acting dean of the School of Social Work in 2000 and was named permanent dean in 2003.
Dr. Jacobs received her bachelor’s degree from Sacramento State University. She holds a master of social work degree from San Diego State University and a doctorate from the Heller School of Brandeis University. She also trained as a spiritual director at the Shalem Institute for Spiritual Formation in Washington, D.C.
