Wafaa El-Sadr Appointed University Professor at Columbia

Wafaa El-Sadr has been named a University Professor at Columbia University in New York City. The rank of University Professor is the highest academic honor at the university. At the present time, only 13 individuals hold the rank of University Professor.
Dr. El-Sadr joined the faculty of the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in 1988. In 1999 she also became affiliated with the Mailman School of Public Health. She has been a crusader in the worldwide battle against HIV/AIDS. She has been a MacArthur Fellow and is a member of the Institutes of Medicine. She is the director of the International Center for AIDS Care and Treatment Programs and the Center for Infectious Disease Epidemiology.
Professor E-Sadr received her medical training at Cairo University in Egypt. She holds a master of public health degree from Columbia University and a master of public administration degree from the Kennedy School at Harvard University.
