Jocelyn F. Benson is an associate professor at the Wayne State University Law School in Detroit. Her husband is an Army paratrooper.
Because there is no active duty Army base in Michigan where family members of those in the armed services can turn to for support, Professor Benson founded Military Spouses of Michigan. Professor Benson explained, “I wanted our courageous military spouses in Michigan to be comforted by one simple promise: You are not alone.”
The organization provides free legal advice to military spouses and acts as a clearinghouse for employment opportunities and information on federal and state programs that have an impact on military families. Military Spouses of Michigan also holds social events to help provide a sense of community for families of active duty military personnel.
More information on the organization can be found here.
Professor Benson is a graduate of Wellesley College and Harvard Law School. She holds a master’s degree from Oxford University as a Marshall Scholar.
