Christina Paxson Named President of Brown University

The board of trustees of Brown University have selected Christina Hull Paxson as the nineteenth president of the university. She will succeed Ruth Simmons who is stepping down at the end of the academic year. Dr. Paxson will assume her new duties on July 1.
Dr. Paxson is the dean of the Woodrow Wilson School of International and Public Affairs and the Hughes Rogers Professor of Economics and Public Affairs at Princeton University. Her research focuses on health, economic development, and public policy.
Dr. Paxson is a graduate of Swarthmore College. She earned a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in economics from Columbia University. She joined the Princeton faculty in 1986 and was promoted to full professor in 1997.
