Sylvia Torti Named Seventh President of the College of the Atlantic

The College of the Atlantic in Bar Harbor, Maine has selected Sylvia Torti to serve as the institution’s seventh president. She will begin her presidency on July 1.

The College of the Atlantic enrolls less than 400 undergradaute students, 68 percent of whom are women. The school currently has one graduate program, a master of philosophy in human ecology, which consisted of 3 students as of the fall 2022 semester.

Dr. Torti comes to her new position after fifteen years of service with the University of Utah. She recently served as dean of the university’s Honors College, and was appointed presidential honors professor last year. Prior to her most recent role, she served as director of the university’s field station, an outdoor laboratory focusing on a broad range of environmental topics associated with human and natural system interactions.

Dr. Torti is a graduate of Earlham College in Richmond, Indiana where she majored in biology. She holds a Ph.D. in biology from the University of Utah.
