Tricia R. Serio currently serves as a professor and chair of the department of molecular and cellular biology at the University of Arizona. Dr. Serio, who holds a Ph.D. in molecular biophysics and biochemistry from Yale University, will begin her new duties at the University of Massachusetts in August.

A Surge in Sexual Discrimination Complaints at the U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights
The data shows there were 7,747 complaints relating to sexual discrimination filed with the Office for Civil Rights during the 2016 fiscal year. This was 46 percent of all complaints filed that year. Of these, most were related to Title IX provisions concerning equal opportunity for girls and women in athletics at educational institutions.
The American Philosophical Society Elects its First Woman President
Linda Greenhouse is the Knight Distinguished Journalist-in-Residence and the Joseph Goldstein Lecturer in Law at Yale Law School. She is the first woman to serve as president in the 273-year history of the American Philosophical Society.

After examining articles in six of the world’s leading medical journals over the past 20 years, researchers from three U.S. universities found that women were just 34 percent of the lead authors. While there was a slight upward trend over the past 20 years, the progress appears to have plateaued in the most recent years.
