Eleven Women Academics Awarded MacArthur Foundation Fellowships
The Chicago-based MacArthur Foundation has announced the selection of 23 individuals in this year’s class of MacArthur Fellows. Of this year’s 23 MacArthur Fellows, 12 are women. All but one have current ties to the academic world.
Nancy Zimpher Announces She Will Step Down as Chancellor of the State University of New York
Nancy L. Zimpher, chancellor of the State University of New York System, announced that she will step down at the end of the 2016-17 academic year. She has been chancellor of the 64-campus system for the past seven years.
Mount Mary University President to Step Down in 2017
Eileen Mihm Schwalbach has been president of the university in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, since 2009 and has served on the full-time faculty there since 1997. The university’s undergraduate programs are open only to women and currently enroll about 860 students.
In Memoriam: Barbara Zakrzewska Borowiecki, 1924-2016
Barbara Z. Borowiecki taught geography at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee for 32 years. A native of Warsaw, Poland, she lived through the Nazi occupation and came to the United States in 1947 at the age of 23.

Merry E. Wiesner-Hanks is a Distinguished Professor of history at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. She will serve for two years as vice president and president-elect and then become president of the World History Association in 2018.
Jean Bartels Is the New Leader of Georgia Southern University
