Melody Rose Selected to Lead the Nevada System of Higher Education
Dr. Rose most recently served as president of Marylhurst University in Oregon from 2014 to 2019. Earlier in her career, Dr. Rose served as chancellor of the Oregon University System and was vice provost for academic programs and instruction and dean of undergraduate studies at Portland State University in Oregon.
Lori Kletzer Appointed Provost at the University of California, Santa Cruz
Dr. Kletzer initially joined the faculty at the University of California, Santa Cruz in 1992. From 2010 to July 2017, Dr. Kletzer was provost and dean of faculty at Colby College in Waterville, Maine.

She is being honored for her mentorship activities.
Sandra Faber Has Received the Gold Medal From the Royal Astronomical Society
The award honors Dr. Faber, a professor emerita at the University of California, Santa Cruz, “for her outstanding research on the formation, structure and evolution of galaxies, and for her contributions to the optical design of the Keck Telescopes and other novel astronomical instruments.”

The University of Califoria, Santa Cruz’s feminist studies program was established in 1974 and began its first graduate programs in 2013. Recently, Veronika Zablotsky and Erin McElroy became the the first two students to receive a Ph.D. in feminist studies at the university.
Cynthia Larive Named Chancellor of the University of California, Santa Cruz
Dr. Larive currently serves as provost and executive vice chancellor at the University of California, Riverside, a position she has held since 2017. She has been a member of the UC Riverside community since 2005. Dr. Larive will begin her tenure as chancellor of the University of California, Santa Cruz on July 1.

While her husband Donald was director of the Lick Observatory at the University of California, Santa Cruz, Irene played a constant role in his career by editing his work and organizing his records. In September of 2018, the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute’s board of directors selected Angela Davis to receive the Fred Shuttlesworth Human Rights Award at its annual gala in February.
