The leading feminist scholar bell hooks, the Distinguished Professor in Residence in Appalachian Studies at Berea College in Kentucky, died at her home in Berea on December 15 at the age of 69.

In Memoriam: Virginia Lester, 1931-2016
Dr. Virginia Lester served as president of what is now Mary Baldwin University from 1976 to 1985. After stepping down as president in 1985, Dr. Lester earned a law degree at Stanford University.
