Taking on new roles are Renee Robinson at Seton Hall University in South Orange, New Jersey, Penny Castellano at Emory University in Atlanta, Julie Simmons Ivy at the Universuty of Michigan, and Deborah Cohen at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois.
American Heart Association Bestows Lembright Award on University of Connecticut Researcher
Nancy Schmieder Redeker is a professor at the University of Connecticut Schools of Nursing and Medicine, senior associate dean for research, and interim director of the Ph.D. program in nursing. The Lembright Award, established in 1987, is the top award for excellence in research given by the American Heart Association.
Six Women Faculty Members Who Are Taking on New Assignments
Taking on new positions or duties are Zeynep Tufekci at Princeton University, Viviana Gradinaru at the California Institute of Technology, Carmen Lanos Williams at Arkansas State University, Lynne Carpenter-Boggs at Washington State University, Stephanie Harris at Seton Hall University in South Orange, New Jersey, and Angela M. Eikenberry at the University of Nebraska-Omaha.
A Change in Leadership at Seton Hall University in South Orange, New Jersey
Dr. Passerini has served as provost and executive vice president at Seton Hall since June 2020. Previously, she served as the Lesley H. and William L. Collins Distinguished Chair and dean of the Lesley H. and William L. Collins College of Professional Studies at St. John’s University in Queens, New York. Earlier, she was dean of the Albert Dorman Honors College at the New Jersey Institute of Technology in Newark.
Four Nursing Schools Announce Their New Leaders
The new nursing school deans are Laly Joseph at Florida Southern College in Lakeland, Tesa Keeling at Midland University in Fremont, Nebraska, Kristi Stinson at Seton Hall University in New Jersey, and Allison Webel at the University of Washington.
Lena Tran Appointed President of Columbia College in Sonora, California
Dr. Tran comes to Columbia College from San Jose City College, where she has served as vice president of strategic partnerships and workforce innovation for more than four years. Previously, at Evergreen College in San Jose, she was dean of business and workforce development.
In Memoriam: Julia A. Miller, 1928-2021
In 1970 Seton Hall University in South Orange, New Jersey, established the Black Studies Center. Dr. Miller was the founding associate director. Within two years she became the director. She served in that role until 1984.
Naelys Luna Is the Founding Dean of the College of Social Work and Criminal Justice at Florida Atlantic University
Dr. Luna has been serving as interim dean since July 2019 and previously was a professor of social work at the university. Her research focuses on substance use disorders, mood disorders, spirituality, parental roles, mental health outcomes in minorities, and psychosocial functioning.
Three Women Appointed to Provost Positions at Colleges and Universities
Karen An-Hwei Lee was named provost and professor of English at Wheaton College in Illinois. Katia Passerini was appointed provost and executive vice president at Seton Hall University in South Orange, New Jersey, and Mary Pedersen was appointed provost and executive vice president at Colorado State University.
Nicole Pride Will Be the First Woman President of West Virginia State University
Dr. Pride had been serving as the vice provost for academic strategy and operations at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University. Earlier she served as associate vice chancellor for university relations and chief of staff for the chancellor of the university.
Janet Eber Honored for a Lifetime of Service by the American Association of Community Colleges
Dr. Eber has been a member of the faculty at the County College of Morris for more than half a century. She is a professor of English and chair of the department of English and philosophy at the college. Dr. Eber will be honored at the association’s annual conference on March 30.
Eight Women Named Outstanding First-Year Student Advocates by the National Resources Center
The National Resources Center at the University of South Carolina recently named 10 educators as 2019 Outstanding First-Year Student Advocates. Out of the 10 recipients, eight were women.
Seton Hall University’s Maxine Lurie Wins Award for Her Book on the History of New Jersey
Maxine Lurie, professor emerita in the College of Arts and Sciences at Seton Hall University in South Orange, New Jersey, has received an Award of Merit from the American Association for State and Local History for her latest book, which contains 650 historical photographs taken in New Jersey.
Mary Meehan to Lead Seton Hall University in New Jersey
Dr. Meehan stepped down as president of Alverno College in Milwaukee in June 2016. She had served in that role for 12 years. Previously, she was executive vice president for administration at Seton Hall University.

The new deans are Judy Neubrander at Illinois State, Bonita Stanton at Seton Hall University, Elizabeth Moje at the University of Michigan, Margaret Fitzgerald at North Dakota State, Anna Scheyett at the University of Georgia, Mariale Hardiman at Johns Hopkins University, and Amanda Moore McBride at the University of Denver.

Alverno College President Announces Her Retirement
In 2004, Mary J. Meehan was appointed the seventh president and the first lay president of Alverno College, a Catholic college for women in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. President Meehan has announced that she will retire at the end of the 2015-16 academic year.
