The women selected for new positions in academia are Eugenia Vasileiadou, Amey Victoria Adkins-Jones, Shannon Wiltsey-Stirman, Amanda Kaltenberg, Federica Brandizzi, Debra Sullivan, Leslie Appiah, and Shaniece Bickham.

The appointments are Marjornette Jefferson at Meharry Medical College, Terri Hooper at Benedict College, Heather Horn at the University of Washington, Dawn Daniels at Washington State University, Wendy Lin-Cook at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Ruth Lopez at Alverno College, Victoria Farnsworth at the University of Mississippi, Heidi Grunwald at North Dakota State University, and Laura Franklin at the University of New Mexico.

The new deans are Wiebke Strehl at Newberry College, Sonja Harris-Haywood at Meharry Medical College, Sarah Banet-Weiser at the University of Pennsylvania, Laurie Garrett-Cobbina at the University of Redlands, Mollye Demosthenidy at Newcomb-Tulane College, Jenna Hyatt at Washington State University, Deleise Wilson at Polk State College, and Mary Gallant at the University of Massachusetts Lowell.

Huda Zoghbi, the founding director of the Jan and Dan Duncan Neurological Research Institute at Texas Children’s Hospital and a Distinguished Service Professor at the Baylor College of Medicine, is being honored for her work pinpointing the underlying, genetic causes of a pair of devastating neurological diseases.

Huda Zoghbi is a professor of pediatrics, neurology, neuroscience, and molecular and human genetics at Baylor College of Medicine, the founding director of the Jan and Dan Duncan Neurological Research Institute at Texas Children’s Hospital, and a member of the board of trustees of Rice University in Houston.

The four women who have been appointed to endowed chairs are Jennifer Klein at Yale University, Kjerstin Thorson at Michigan State University, Rosemary Nabaweesi at Meharry Medical College in Nashville, Tennessee, and Anne Rimoin at the Fielding School of Public Health at the University of California, Los Angeles.

In 1997 Dr. Epps was named dean of the School of Medicine at Meharry Medical College, making her not only Meharry's first female dean of the medical school, but also the only African-American woman with a Ph.D. to become dean of a U.S. medical school.

The women in new administrative roles are Angela Blanton at Carnegie Mellon University, Betsy Asserson at Montana State University, Katrina Briscoe at Alcorn State University in Mississippi, Sara Judge at Princeton University in New Jersey, and Pilar Prather at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee.
