A Trio of Women Who Have Been Appointed to Diversity Positions in Higher Education
Gauri A. Pitale was appointed vice president for diversity, equity and inclusion at Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois. Elizabeth Olson was named associate dean for diversity, equity, and inclusion in the College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences at the University of Illinois, and Jennifer Carrera is the Dean’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Fellow in the College of Science at Michigan State University.
In Memoriam: Janet Mulder Mueller, 1938-2022
A member of the University faculty for nearly four decades, Dr. Mueller was the first woman to lead an academic division at the University of Chicago. In her first four years on the faculty, Mueller had been the only woman teaching in the department of English.
Andrea Talentino Will Be the Next President of Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois
Dr. Talentino currently serves as provost of Nazareth College in Rochester, New York. Before arriving at Nazareth, Dr. Talentino served as the dean of the College of Liberal Arts at Norwich University in Vermont. Prior to that, she was an associate dean at Drew University in Madison, New Jersey. She also has served on the faculty at Tulane University in New Orleans.

Dr. Lawrence is the provost and chief academic officer at Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois. Earlier in her career, she was a professor of economics and management and chair of the division of social sciences at the University of Minnesota at Morris.

Since its founding 151 years ago, the college in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, has never had a woman as dean.
