Wendy Cadge has been named president of Bryn Mawr College, a liberal arts educational institution for women in Pennsylvania. She will assume her presidency on July 1.
Bryn Mawr College enrolls about 1,400 undergraduate women and roughly 300 graduate students.
Dr. Cadge has over two decades of experience in higher education. Currently, she serves as dean of the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences and is the Barbara Mandel Professor of the Humanistic Social Sciences at Brandies University in Waltham, Massachusetts. She has held a number of other leadership positions during her tenure with the university including associate dean for strategic initiatives, head of the social science division, and chair of the women’s, gender, and sexuality studies program.
As a scholar and professor of sociology, Dr. Cadge’s academic research has focused on issues in contemporary American religion. She has authored numerous scholarly articles and three books: Spiritual Care: The Everyday Work of Chaplains (Oxford University Press, 2022), Paging God: Religion in the Halls of Medicine (University of Chicago Press, 2013), and Heartwood: The First Generation of Theravada Buddhism in America (University of Chicago Press, 2004).

Dr. Cadge received her bachelor’s degree in religion, sociology, and anthropology from Swarthmore College in Pennsylvania. She holds a master’s degree and Ph.D. in sociology from Princeton University.
