Jennifer Pollack Is the New Leader of the American Physiological Society

Jennifer Pollock, a professor in the Division of Nephrology in the department of medicine in the School of Medicine at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, is the new president of the American Physiological Society.

Physiology is a broad area of scientific inquiry that focuses on how molecules, cells, tissues, and organs function in health and disease. The American Physiological Society connects a global, multidisciplinary community of more than 10,000 biomedical scientists and educators as part of its mission to advance scientific discovery, understand life. and improve health. The Society spotlights scientific discoveries through 16 scholarly journals.

Dr. Pollock has been an APS member since 1997. Past leadership roles include secretary-treasurer and chair of the Water & Electrolyte Homeostasis Section, member of the nominating and section advisory committees, and organizer of multiple conference and symposia programs.

At the University of Alabama at Birmingham, Dr. Pollack is the co-director of the department of cardio-renal physiology and medicine and co-director of the Center for Clinical and Translational Sciences Predoctoral Training Program.

Dr. Pollack earned her doctorate in biological chemistry from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
